Despite the constant drizzle and strong wind all day, it was going to be a special trip for Ryan, it was his first time out with a fly rod when he joined me on the lower Eden. Fishing a small PTN on a long leader, a few bites missed initially, then a couple of grayling landed, all going well so far. The next take, the water exploded and he was attached to a big silver right off the tide salmon in the lower teens of pounds which just went ballistic! After fiver minutes or so of the fish tearing and crashing around the pool disturbing the other residents, unfortunately the line parted.

After redoing the leader and a new fly tied on, it was not long before the rod was hooped over once more.
