River Eden, May 21st, 2016.

It’s been a fabulous week to be on the river. Consistent hatches of large darks that should have finished some time ago are getting the trout feeding hard, the low water is ideal for that. The salmon keep coming as they have done for many weeks now despite the lack of water and are of good stamp.

I was fishing with my very good friends Mike Cooney and Paul Lalwan the last two days who are very able casters and fishermen. Day one went well, there were trout rising everywhere and some big ones, but we were fishing for salmon.  Paul fished a black and yellow hair wing on a fast tip through the water on the Beaumont stretch.

One of our regular rods on the beat Gary MacDonald then came down to fish, swinging a monkey through the pool…..

Day two was a little more on the quiet side, only a few fish seen moving, was it going to happen again?

A very fresh ten pound fish on a black hair wing safely returned.
