Just a nice few day’s on the river with some good friends, enjoying the surrounding’s as there is always something to see, good company and the fishing. With the weather so bright and with low water levels all week (most unlike Cumbria), the fishing was never going to be on fire fishing during the middle part of the day, but it was very enjoyable all the same and we even caught a few. It has been a week of mostly first timers, most have done an exceptional job of the fly casting and the fishing, I have also enjoyed the experience too!
Invertebrate life on the river bed is in good shape, plenty of willow and needle stone fly about with the odd yellow sally are emerging off the water. Welshman’s button, grey flag and black sedge in the air, pale wateries a few olives and autumn duns, it is certainly getting busier as the month wears on. For the salmon fishing to start again, we do need some serious rainfall after such a dry period to get the fish moving once more, up to now it has been a good season.
