Slightly above summer height and with just a tinge of colour on the middle river today, a cool breeze and dry despite the poor forecast given. John from Newcastle joined me today on Lazonby Estate water, it was John’s first time out with a fly rod. After some initial casting prep he was ready to go, there were quite a few sedge around and plenty of yellow may duns.
The first trout came quite quickly to a PTN.
A first for John on a river and on a fly!
Twenty minutes or so later the second trout, a little larger than the last.
Maybe the camouflage helped!
All in all a great day on the river with some happy results, great company and we had a laugh, thank you John and for Julie organising the day!
There certainly are a few salmon now on the Eden on most of the beats, the river has performed very well this season and let us hope that continues into the Autumn unlike the previous years.
