River Eden 16th March 2015

A big rise of water levels on the 12th due to heavy rain put paid to any thoughts of brown trout fishing for the 15th.

With high pressure due to sit across the U.K this week, the more settled and dry weather should bring conditions to somewhere close to ideal for some trout fishing mid-week.

It is all going in the right direction at last, this is the time of year where the large dark olive hatches are on the go and the trout are now looking more up in the water than down. Fishing dries, spiders and light nymphs on long leaders is a sublime way to lose oneself on a pleasant day on the river. Water temperature is now at 5-oC but unfortunately the wind direction is from the east for a while which may dampen the trout’s willingness to take freely, as soon as that swings to a more westerly we may have to be a little patient.
