GLYN FREEMAN is a full time, fully qualified fly casting instructor and guide, an active member of A.A.P.G.A.I. (Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors). Qualifications - Masters in Salmon and Trout disciplines, Advanced Fly Dressing, and FFF (Federation of Fly Fishers USA) Masters Trout. Full liability insurance, CRB (criminal records bureau) checked, child protection awareness, L20, licensed coach and first aid.
Glyn has fished in Cumbria and the Borders for over twenty years. He is based on the River Eden where he is a river keeper on the lower river and fly casting instructor/guide for John Norris of Penrith. A member of the Scott professional fly casting team,and holds an I.F.M (Institute of Fisheries Management certificate) and part of Borderlines.

Salmon season starts (spring fishing) January 15th. Ends October 14th.
Brown Trout, March 15th-September 30th.
Sea trout, April 1st-September 30th.
There are many Spey casting, salmon/trout fly fishing courses/experiences and one to one tuition sessions available throughout the whole year, and they are all done in a relaxed friendly manner. All are on private water on the river Eden, see list below and on the adult courses page. Each of them is tailored to suit whatever your ability and requirements are with the fishing included. They put you in real fishing situations in the water, (not on the grass or platform), I can supply photos, quality fishing, tackle, waders and safety equipment on the day if you have-not any, free of charge. These can be run as a half day, full day, two or three day or a series of sessions.

Casting tuition for double and single-handed rods.
Single and Double Spey, Snake roll, Snap T- Circle, Overhead, Double haul, Presentation cast, Salt Water, Sunk line techniques and many others. By the end of the session you have a full understanding on how it all works, so when it does go wrong you are able to fix the problem yourself. There are also demonstrations and guiding services available. Or just enjoy a chill out day away from work, fishing and a little nature watching.

Did you know you can practice salmon or trout casting on the river out of season, as long as you have a piece of wool instead of a fly on your leader? (and permission of course). Get your casting skills up to speed for when the seasons starts.

Conditions Tuition and fishing experiences can be on an hourly, (min 2 hours) or half/full day/s session on the various private beats I use on the lower/middle river Eden. You will get the full benefit from the day on a one to one basis. If there are two people there is no extra charge (the cost is split, half each), only one may be in the water at any time when the season gets busy unless a spare rod becomes available on the beat, this is not a bad thing because you will learn as much by watching and doing other things while resting. Everything is included in the cost (excluding E.A rod license if you want to fish). For larger groups of three or more I will have to arrange a different beat for the day that will accommodate the extra numbers and possibly an extra qualified instructor, and the cost will be extra for this depending on the time of year. I can also supply quality equipment for you to use. Should the river be unfishable due to a flood the day will be re-scheduled. Safety is of paramount importance, and although accidents do sometimes happen in life I will ensure to the best of my ability that there are no disasters. It is advisable to book early on in the year as possible, the river Eden and the experience/tuition is very popular.
